Think of this wiki as an experiment in shared knowledge. The concept in a nutshell . . . CSU is demanding more research, and more innovation in flexible learning. Knowledge is doubling every two years, and you have to keep up to date with the Accounting domain as well as the rapidly changing world of Teaching and Learning. Unless you've suddenly morphed into an octopus, you have limited resources to do all of this in. So, where does a wiki fit in?

Wiki means 'quick' in Hawaiian - pity you aren't reading this in Hawai'i, eh? It's a quick way to build a knowledge base, share resources, collaborate on projects, and learn together. Remember that old addage about doing more together than you can alone? That's what wiki is all about. Sharing with others, and trusting that they'll do the same with you so that everyone can expand what they can do while using less resources.

We do it anyway, in more of an ad hoc fashion though. In tea rooms, meetings, emails . . . but it's a bit disjointed and conversations often aren't sustained. In a wiki, you have a place to tie that all together - and continually add onto it so that it becomes more and more useful over time. And it stays there, so that even if you weren't in the tea room discussing the best microphone set to buy for Camtasia tutorials last week, you still get the benefit of the conversation. If and when you need it.

You can start a new page on an aspect of teaching that you are familiar with, or even one that you want to know more about. But unlike a web page, you don't have to make it complete. Why? Because others can add to it - that's the whole idea. You build it together. Add what you know, go away and when you have time add some more. Check out other people's pages and if you have something to contribute, add that in there. This is the ReadWrite web.

So take a look around - this site is just a test so that you can have a play. Try to get a feel of how the editing function works, and if you haven't edited other people's work before, give that a try too.
